Another second for Alan yesterday with Civil Unrest, but he's hoping to go one better with his two selections at Southwell on Tuesday...

"She has shown she can win with a horse who is well handicapped, and Majeste is certainly that. In April 2017, he was rated 103. Now he runs from a rating of 53."

Back Majeste @ BSP in the 15:40 at Southwell

Get on Glasgon for return to the sand

12:10 Southwell - Back Glasgon @ BSP

Glasgon is a bit limited, his rating of 49 tells us as much, but his sole try on the fibresand back in August was a winning one. He seemed to absolutely love the surface on that occasion, so there is every chance he can improve again.

Indeed, his trainer Ray Craggs mentioned that they will have a horse for the winter at Southwell. And with his mark, there will be plenty of races for him that's for sure.

He travelled very well on his previous start here, and he stays too. He raced over 2m at Newcastle recently, and 1m6f last time at Wolverhampton. He was a little unlucky in the latter as he paid for chasing the pace too hard.

Glasgon acts at the track and he's in a real mixed bag of a race. I thought he was worth chancing with the return to 1m4f.

Majeste can rule on the sand on Tuesday

15:40 Southwell - Back Majeste @ BSP

Sticking with the fibresand today for our second bet, and it's time to back a trainer who has done this column plenty of good turns this year, and that's Rebecca Bastiman.

She has shown she can win with a horse who is well handicapped, and Majeste is certainly that. In April 2017, he was rated 103. Now he runs from a rating of 53. He has even been dropped 2lb for his latest effort at the track.

That came over today's distance and it was a slightly stronger grade than what he will face here. He retains the cheekpieces, and he has been showing a bit more recently - including finishing second at Ayr from 58.

It is an amateur riders' contest, but I am happy with the booking of Patrick Millman.
