Alan Dudman has two picks on Betfair Hurdle day at Newbury...
"The way he shaped there off a slow pace means he will be far better suited to a race of today's nature. A big field, and an end-to-end gallop will certainly be more beneficial."
Back Stolen Silver Win and Place @ 25.024/1 and 5.04/1 in the Betfair Hurdle at 15:35
Silver can take the honours in Betfair Hurdle
Newbury 15:35 - Back Stolen Silver win @ 25.024/1 and place @ 5.04/1
I couldn't leave out the Betfair Hurdle as the main punting race of the day. And while my shortlist is more of a longlist, I am putting up Stolen Silver at a big price.
He landed the Rossington Main at Haydock last time in dramatic circumstances, there's leaving it late and there's leaving it late! The way he shaped there off a slow pace means he will be far better suited to a race of today's nature. A big field, and an end-to-end gallop will certainly be more beneficial.
He has plenty of form in testing conditions, but his Cheltenham effort behind the classy Chantry House came on good to soft, and the price at around 25.024/1 in the win market more than compensates if there are any ground fears.
Stolen Silver does finish off his races strongly, and from his current mark he has the right profile. His trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies also has a good record in the race.
Present looks the value call for Williams
Newbury 16:10 - Back Present Value @ 4.507/2
Trainer Evan Williams has some decent runners out on Saturday, and I'm interested in backing his young chaser Present Value.
Aside from being out of my favourite jumps ' stallion Gold Well, the step up on trip for this 2m7f should really suit.
He didn't run too badly at Aintree earlier in the season, and he was a little outpaced over 2m3f at Exeter last time. In short he shaped well in both, over distances that looked short of his optimum.
From 128 he looks well treated too and he can get off the mark for the season.
