Bets Of The Day: A golden day in store for Easterby and Dods at Ayr

Saturday racing finish
Alan is looking for a winner or two in the big sprint races in Scotland on Saturday

A perfect start to the week for Alan yesterday with both bets winning at 10.09/1 and 5/1. He looks to the feature races in Scotland on Saturday - and has a big price selection in the Ayr Gold Cup...

"He has plenty of form on soft ground and he can still land a big win from a mark of 99."

Back Golden Appollo @ 19.018/1 in the 15:50 at Ayr

Dakota deserves gold in Silver Cup

14:40 Ayr - Back Dakota Gold @ 12.011/1

Michael Dods' sprinter Dakota Gold is worth another chance to win a decent pot after a series of good efforts, and he is the bet at 10.09/1 for the Ayr Silver Cup.

He's been running well on decent ground in some very competitve sprints. He finished fourth in the Portland, and was on the wrong side in the Great St Wilfrid to finish second at Ripon.

However, a bit of juice in the ground for the first time in a while should suit, and hopefully he can eradicate some of the keen-going tendencies he displays as he can pull hard in his races.

But I still believe he is well handicapped from his mark of 91. After all, he started the season from 100 and he's not exactly regressing. He also finished second to Bacchus last term from a rating of 93.

The draw in 22 we have to take on the chin. I prefer an extreme either way, but he's most certainly got a valuable handicap in him. Perhaps he'll show his best on soft ground.

Appollo's time has come at Ayr

15:50 Ayr - Back Golden Appollo @ 19.018/1

Golden Appollo won at the Shergar Cup meeting last season and his trainer Tim Easterby said he'll be a future Ayr Gold Cup horse, and I must admit, with all the races he has been in this season, this could be ideal.

He's certainly frustrating. When he runs over 7f he looks a 6f horse, and when he runs over 6f, he stays on late at the end. The trip in the Portland on decent ground last time was a bit too sharp for him, so it was no surprise he was boxing-on late.

I tend to look for a runner that stays 7f for this, and Golden Appollo certainly fits the bill.

The trainer is enjoying one of his best-ever seasons and has plenty of chances in this race, but this sprinter looks one of his better contenders. He has form on soft ground and he can still land a big win from a mark of 99.
