Outsider Tulliver holds claims in small field
15:15 Beverley - Back Tom Tulliver @ 7.06/1
Our first bet of the day is on the Westwood, and Tom Tulliver is the selection to gain his second victory of the season.
It's a reasonable prize of nearly 7k to the winner, but it's a small field, and that could play to the strengths of Declan Carroll's juvenile as he can be up there with the pace - an attribute that can certainly help at Beverley.
Tom Tulliver scored earlier in the summer at Yarmouth and looked a decent type with the way he travelled. He also performed admirably in a novice at Catterick subsequently - where he was conceding 12lb.
He runs in this nursery from 79, and he could be better than that mark judged on his Yarmouth success. It's a big price at around 7.06/1 considering it's a small field and he could lead. There are obvious chances to use the bet as a back-to-lay.
Sussex success for Millman?
15:35 Goodwood - Back N Over J @ 5.69/2
The William Knight-trained N Over J runs in the Amateur Riders' Handicap at 15:35 and won't be high on too many people's betting lists considering there are a couple of stronger races on the card, but he looks a well treated horse at present and is the play.
The booking of Patrick Millman is a major plus too, with the rider holding plenty of experience in these sorts of races.
In terms of form this season, he hasn't quite replicated last term's efforts. He was undoubtedly unlucky in a couple of runs in 2018. One at Epsom springs to mind from a mark of 61. He also travelled very well at Kempton last October, but again he didn't have that crucial bit of luck.
He'll need a slice of good fortune perhaps at Goodwood - a notorious "hard-luck story" venue, but he races from his lowest-ever mark of 49 and is pretty adaptable in terms of going.
