12:50 Lingfield - Have a field day with Julia's Example
With the way the weather is shaping up, I am playing safe and sticking with the artificial stuff.
Most of the runners in this 1m handicap aren't especially well handicapped, although I've got a soft spot for Franco's Secret - but he's running from a mark of 81 and that could just stretch him.
There's one in here that could go well at a decent price, and that's Best Example for trainer Julia Fielden.
He ran in a fairly good race behind the in-form Van Huysen over 1m2f recently, and that was his best start for the yard (in three attempts) since joining from Godolphin. He had a few unlucky runs too for Saeed bin Suroor.
The 5yo was runner-up this time last year in a stronger race at Wolverhampton from a mark of 85, and from a 7lb lower rating, he gets the nod in a wide open race.
14:35 Lingfield - Rock Steady can be a big hit at leafy
A few in this decent 1m4f handicap have form over further, and Lingfield is a track where they can sprint late on in tactical races, and for that reason I am sticking with Roger Charlton's Rock Steady.
He has been described as a "tough little cookie with a turn of foot" by the trainer's son Harry, and despite his love of finishing second, he's got very strong claims here at around 4.03/1.
Rock Steady ran behind Watersmeet in a race over 1m6f last time, so I'm happy with him coming back down in trip. In fact, he displayed a nice turn of foot in a race that developed into a sprint when scoring recently at Wolverhampton over today's distance.
I think he could be best at 1m2f, and as a compact sort of horse, he should enjoy his first try scuttling around Lingfield. He has improved 20lb since the summer, and with only six starts on the all-weather, there might be a bit more to come.
