Bets Of The Day: Fife's veteran can strike at a massive price

Alan Dudman goes for two big prices at York in a pair of handicaps
Alan Dudman goes for two big prices at York in a pair of handicaps

No joy for Alan Dudman yesterday with both of his selections beaten. Saturday represents a different test with our man heading for York in search of a winner....

"These days he is based with Marjorie Fife and with four runs at his new yard, there have been better signs. He wasn't beaten too far at Epsom recently in a much hotter race than this. The assessor has dropped him a further 3lb."

16:05 York - Tate can add to meagre season's tally

With some fiendishly difficult and large field handicaps to crack at York on Saturday, I am prepared to take a swing at Destroyer in the 1m1f contest.

He is unexposed over today's sort of trip and it could unlock some improvement in this likeable four-year-old. He certainly is up to winning races from his current mark of 79 judged on some of his efforts last term.

One looks a standout at Yarmouth behind Fastnet Tempest in September, and Destroyer was unlucky as he got shuffled back and denied a run. Overall he was very consistent in 2016 for William Muir, but he's now with Tom Tate.

His first run for Tate came at York three weeks ago over 7f - a race which wasn't run at the sternest of gallops but he still fared well. The yard are still quiet with just one winner this term, but Waiting For Richie finished second at York on Friday at a big price. For that, we should be encouraged, and this horse is very likeable.

17:15 York - B Fifty Two runs off attractive mark

Time for another big field handicap on the Knavesmire and I cannot help chucking a couple of quid at B Fifty Two at 20/1.

The eight-year-old has dropped down to such an attractive mark from 79 that he must be considered. Last summer he was rated 20lb higher and was running in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot.

These days he is based with Marjorie Fife and with four runs at his new yard, there have been better signs. He wasn't beaten too far at Epsom recently in a much hotter race than this. The assessor has dropped him a further 3lb.

Fife's horses are running well with three wins in the last last nine days - including Classic Seniority's third yesterday at York.
