Well-treated Afandem to get back to winning ways
14:30 Redcar - Back Afandem @ 5.409/2
Our first bet of the day at Redcar is Afandem, and he is so well-handicapped that I cannot leave him off my list.
In 2017 he was a 100-rated sprinter for Hugo Palmer, but he's lost his way a bit and struggled to get his head in front when trained by Mark Johnston last year. He's now with Tim Easterby.
His mark is now down to 69 and I thought he produced a fair enough run earlier this month at Thirsk. He shaped well at a big price, and that was his first outing for 173 days.
Down 2lb and on quick ground, he has got to go close.
Effect can be the magical selection for Carr
15:40 Redcar - Back Magical Effect @ 8.07/1
The 10/1 Sportsbook price on Magical Effect was snapped up last night, and he's an interesting runner in a decent little 0-90 sprint.
With seven in the field, three are race fit, including Magical Effect, who was quite an unlucky horse last season with several near-misses.
He ran some fine races in 2018, but he's got a little bit of help now from the handicapper with his rating down to 78. He went close from higher marks at Sandown and Ayr last term.
Quick ground suits and I am hoping the drop down from 7f to 6f will be a plus. His trainer Ruth Carr could be about to hit a run of form as I think her horses have been shaping quite well.
