Richards' veteran can take Top Billing if rain arrives
15:05 Newcastle - Back Top Billing @ 14.013/1
It's probably a bit of a risk throwing in a jumps card selection on Tuesday as the forecast is somewhat bleak, but hopefully it's more rain than snow.
With that in mind, and working on soft conditions, I have to stick with the Nicky Richards-trained Top Billing here.
This is a Northern Lights Qualifier, and he bolted up in one of these at Carlisle recently in heavy conditions from 98. He travelled very well too throughout the contest.
He stays well and a stiff 3m really suits. The more rain the better will play to his strengths and he's still well treated from his form of two seasons' ago when he was running off marks in the 120s.
The 10yo can throw in the odd stinker, but I'll forgive his effort last time at Kelso and he is certainly a big enough price to consider in the Place market too.
Bank on Exchequer in feature sprint
19:15 Wolverhampton - Back Exchequer @ 7.06/1
The feature race of the evening at Wolverhampton is a cracking 0-105 sprint over 6f and plenty hold chances.
My selection is Exchequer - who hasn't done a lot wrong since returning from a wind op back in August 2018.
He's a much better horse on the all-weather and has a decent strike-rate of 6-22 on the artificial.
Last time out he chased a strong pace over 7f at Kempton and raced a little wide. He ran well, but the early exertions might just have caught him out in the closing stages.
Exchequer is dropping back down to 6f and likes to dominate. He has a good draw in 4 to kick on and should make it a true test with his extra stamina.
