Bets Of The Day: Two front-runners to back at Musselburgh

National Hunt racing
Both of Alan's selections on Monday run at Musselburgh

Alan Dudman had a winner yesterday with Quri, who returned a decent BSP of 9.9 on the day. Our man is looking for his third success of the week with two bets at Musselburgh on Monday...

"He's the veteran of the party at 12 years of age, but he's a grand servant for connections who must be a pleasure to own."

Asum can gain first win over fences

13:55 Musselburgh - Back Asum @ 4.03/1

Success yesterday, although I hope you took the BSP of 9.9 on Quri. She bolted up by 11 lengths at Uttoxeter and a win is a win - but taking the 4.03/1 was a slight kick in the teeth!

Small fields are the order of the day for Monday, so some of the races were filed under the "no bet" category swiftly. The 13:55 chase however is the one to have my first bet of the day, and it could be worth siding with Asum.

He was rated 122 over hurdles but struggled early in his career over the fences with two unseats. He was held up for a confidence booster at Ayr last month and got round safely, and he followed that up with a personal best at the same track. The switch to front-running tactics worked so I would like to see the same again.

From a mark of 117, he is certainly treated to win a race over timber, and this doesn't look the strongest of contests.

He has form on good ground from his younger days and the tongue tie is retained.

Popular veteran bidding for another success in Scotland

15:00 Musselburgh - Back Civil Unrest @ 4.904/1

A case can be made for a few in this small field, especially Nicolas Chauvin who is well treated, but he hasn't shown much for a while. Monsieur Co is another, but he probably needs an end-to-end gallop in a bigger field.

By process of elimination and the horse with the fewest question marks, I make the hugely likeable Civil Unrest the bet in the race.

He's the veteran of the party at 12 years of age, but he's a grand servant for connections who must be a pleasure to own. His effort when just being worn down recently at Kelso was a
slightly stronger grade than today's, and he gave it a really good shot from the front in that race.

Civil Unrest loves the track, acts on decent ground and will bowl along with the lead. Hopefully we can get a good run for our money with this fella.
