Mr Lupton's success yesterday at 13.5 was another winner for Alan Dudman, and he is looking for his third of the week with a pair of bets on Monday....
"Ayr's long run-in should suit, and so should the extra furlong. He looked a well handicapped horse last year, and from 70 with the yard flying, he is worth an interest."
15:40 Southwell - Bob can break his long losing run
The last time Captain Bob won a race was back in June 2014, but he has a bit in his favour to finally strike in this Southwell sprint.
The six-year-old has dropped down to a fairly enticing mark, and with a rating these days of 67 - that is some way below his peak. In fact, last spring he competed in a class 2 handicap and was running from 81.
Another plus is that he handles the Fibresand, as he ran at Southwell in March and finished second. Having missed the break badly in the 0-70, he was asked to make a big effort up the inside and was almost level with the front runner at the turn.
He travelled well on the surface and there was absolutely nothing wrong with his effort when he angled down the centre of the track. The winner might just have got the smarter ride, as the effort to scrub up Captain Bob could be thrown up as a potential excuse why he got outstayed.
He was beaten as a 5/2 favourite last time at Brighton, but I would forgive any run there. With only three runs on the all-weather, he could offer a bit more now we know he handles the surface.
I am not sure if the horse's moniker comes from the trainer, but Robert Cowell is in fairly decent form this month; he has three winners from 11 runners in May and two seconds.
One of the hottest trainers around at the moment is Noel Wilson. The sample is small, though, but three of his recent four runners have all won - and he saddles the likely favourite Hayward Field.
Bets were fairly tough to find on Monday, so apologies for going with a pretty obvious one, but the price of 11/4 is reasonable.
This will be his first outing for Wilson, and first since being gelded last year. He posted a couple of improved handicap efforts in 2016 for Roger Varian, and he should have won at Kempton - he met trouble plenty of times to scupper a victory. He was last seen at Ripon over 1m4f but he didn't handle that track and took quite a while to pick up and organise himself. There is still more to come.
Ayr's long run-in should suit, and so should the extra furlong. He looked a well handicapped horse last year, and from 70 with the yard flying, he is worth an interest.
