Bets Of The Day: Southwell selection set to have a say on Monday night

Southwell's Fibresand
J Gaye runs at Southwell and has the potential to trade shorter in-running

One Of Us was a Sunday winner for Alan Dudman at a handsome 6.411/2, and he is hoping for more success at Southwell and Plumpton on Monday....

"The front two were well clear of the field last time, and it's probably a plus that she reverts back to 1m4f for Monday evening."

Back J Gaye @ 7.06/1 in the 18:45 at Southwell

Gordon's Mio can roll back the years with a win

13:30 Plumpton - Back Vicenzo Mio @ 7.06/1

The "Williams system" worked well yesterday with One Of Us scoring at Fontwell, and we continue in Sussex to start Monday's column with a bet at Plumpton.

This isn't a great race, but hopefully it's one that Chris Gordon's Vicenzo Mio can win. He hasn't been the heartiest in a finish down the years, and has a number of odds-on defeats in-play to his name - including a 1.041/25. Click here to find out more about trading on the exchange.

However, he acts well in heavy conditions and requires a true stamina test over 2m, and from a career-low mark with a drop in grade, he is one to consider backing in a weak affair.

Although the in-running caveat could apply with a bit of insurance at around 2.56/4.

Filly to enjoy the Fibresand again

18:45 Southwell - Back J Gaye @ 7.06/1

With eight Fibresand winners in the field for the 18:45 at Southwell, it certainly is one of the more competitive races for the evening, and my win selection is the three-year-old filly J Gaye.

She had a go on the surface for the first time recently and performed with great credit when finishing second over 1m6f. In fact, she travelled like the winner at the top of the turn, so it was no surprise she was matched in defeat at 1.111/9 in-running. That is important to consider if you are looking to back-to-lay her, and there is enough scope with her price to trade.

The front two were well clear of the field last time, and it's probably a plus that she reverts back to 1m4f for Monday evening. She stayed the trip on her latest outing, but she has more than enough speed to cope with a shorter distance.

Her sire Canford Cliffs could be one to follow with his progeny on the surface.
