Keen to back Morrison's charge back on the all-weather
19:00 Kempton - Back Robert L'Echelle @ 13/2 Sportsbook price each-way
My bets with team Godolphin haven't quite worked out this week, although Royal Crusade performed well in second in the Champagne Stakes. There's a Saeed bin Suroor runner in this eight-runner handicap at Kempton, but I'll be swerving Dubai Discovery in favour of Robert L'Echelle.
He has performed poorly in two runs on the turf this season following a gelding operation, but he sparked back into life with an improved effort on the all-weather last time out at Wolverhampton. He finished third and was left poorly placed out the back, and he fared best of those held up off the gallop.
It may be that he's simply a much better horse on the all-weather surfaces as he scored last term at Wolverhampton.
He's lightly-raced and takes a slight drop down in class for this evening. He stayed on well last time and I suspect the slower riding surface at Kempton might suit him a little better.
With the eight in the field, he's an obvious each-way angle at 13/2 on the Sportsbook.
Lou a huge price on first start for new yard
19:30 Kempton - Back Lucky Lou @ 33/1 Sportsbook price each-way
With 14 in the field this is an Extra Place Special on the Sportsbook, and I am interested in a massive outsider here at 33/1.
It's a low-grade race at 0-60 level, but there is a bit to work on with Pat Chamings' filly Lucky Lou, and she is worth more than a second look in a winnable affair.
On the evidence of her last run she would have no chance, but she's had a break since then and has joined Chamings from Ken Cunningham-Brown.
She didn't run too badly at Salisbury earlier in the season and that looked a fair race for the 0-60 grade and she seemed to travel pretty well in the first-time hood (if a touch keen). That was over 1m2f and switching to 1m4f could bring about some improvement. She ran at Kempton three times over 7f on her first few starts and she shaped like she wanted a trip.
The dam is out of Montjeu, too, so there is hope.
The trainer has fired in a couple of winners recently from just nine sent out, and I think she can run a better race than her odds suggest.
