Watson can start new role with a bang for Charlton
14:05 Kempton - Back Extra Elusive @ 10.09/1
For those of you that prefer the Flat racing and feel you have been a little starved of action, Saturday remedies that with Doncaster and Kempton. I must admit, my preference is for the all-weather in what looks a tremendous fixture.
One of the big races is the Listed Magnolia Stakes and most of the field could lay claim here to win the contest. It looks a deep edition.
I am happy to play Extra Elusive - who was available to back at 8/1 on the Sportsbook last night.
This horse has got a dazzling turn of foot, and he showed that brilliant change of pace when settling a decent handicap at Kempton last year from a mark of 88. He also competed in a hot race at Ascot to finish second - an effort where he was too keen. It is noteworthy he wears the hood for the first time today.
His keen-going nature has been a problem and he appears to have been an immature horse. However, he held Group race entries last year (including the Voltiguer) and he looks the type who could have a decent season.
He goes for Roger Charlton and Jason Watson, and the jockey starts out as the stable's number one rider - so it could be a big afternoon for him.
Dunlop's charge can get back on track at a big price
15:15 Kempton - Back Alternative Fact each-way @ 16/1 Sportsbook
The historical Rosebery Handicap is another of the ITV4 races and also a PROMO race on the Sportsbook, and I am happy to take a bit of a swing on Ed Dunlop's Alternative Fact.
He was a smart 2yo who didn't quite kick on in his 3yo campaign last term, although he fared well in a couple of strong handicaps behind the likes of Communique and Danceteria, but disappointed in Group 2 and 3 company.
Alternative Fact clearly was well thought of in his early days and held a Derby entry, and he is down to a mark of 95 from 101.
Drawn in 8, this 1m3f trip could be ideal for him on the surface. This will be his first run on the all-weather and first since being gelded. Canny veteran Gerald Mosse (pictured below) is the man on board. With 16 runners, he is an each-way bet.
