Alan Dudman returns to the Bets Of The Day tipping chair, and he thinks a big price outsider has got a chance at Kempton on Friday evening...
"Castlelyons was last seen running in a similar handicap over course and distance in a race where they didn't go quick enough up front."
Return to all-weather can do the trick for Bay
19:15 Kempton - Back Clovelly Bay @ [17.0]
Trainer Marcus Tregoning enjoyed a high profile winner last weekend and his horses seem to be running well, which points me towards Clovelly Bay.
He doesn't win too often, but he has come down to an attractive mark of 62. He ran well in a handicap at Goodwood in June from a 7lb higher rating, so he is certainly treated to go close and has past form to get him in the shake-up here. His price of 16/1 on the Sportsbook looks too big.
His last outing at Bath wasn't particularly good but a return to Kempton should help as he does act well around the track and enjoys the surface.
The Place market should be considered, and there's also a 4 Places market available.
Kirby has rock-solid claims with Castlelyons
19:45 Kempton - Back Castlelyons @ [4.50]
The race of the night at Kempton is a 0-95 handicap, and Castlelyons has a look of a horse who could be set for a fine winter campaign. He is lightly-raced for his age and he acts around the track.
He's been off since April, so what the issue was I don't know, but he seems to go pretty well off a break, and I am hoping he is tuned-up for this.
Castlelyons was last seen running in a similar handicap over course and distance in a race where they didn't go quick enough up front, and he fared best of the horses to come from off the pace. He finished well in that, and there should be a bit more to come from a mark of 91 with Adam Kirby booked.
