Just two all weather tracks have beat the weather for today but Alan Thompson has a selection from each...
"The booking of Andrea Atzeni suggests that her connections are confident of a bold showing."
Aunt Helen can break her maiden tag today
Mark Loughnane has been profitable to follow with his runners at this venue over the last five seasons, and today he runs his lightly raced maiden Aunt Helen. This daughter of Verrazano made a promising start to life in handicaps when third at Wolverhampton last time out and she gets in here running off the same mark. The race at Wolverhampton just two weeks ago has already produced a winner and a third so it was potentially better than she faces today. The unexposed four-year-old is making her fibresand debut, she is entitled to come on again for her last start and the booking of Andrea Atzeni suggests that her connections are confident of a bold showing.
Just two days ago we seen Newgirlintown winning at Chelmsford in a classified race, Gerard O'Leary is obviously keen to get his filly out again as quickly as possible. The filly may respond to the quick turn around but generally has had a break between races, the only time she has run within two weeks of a previous race she finished sixth of 13.
Concierge can point us in the right direction
I want to take a chance with Concierge in this, David Laughnane's four-year-old is having his fifth successive race off the same mark (85) and he has run well in defeat certainly on the last three, last time out at Kempton he finished a close third just last week. He has a win in him off this mark and has won in the past off 3lbs higher. He should get a stronger pace to aim at today, so running on a surface that he appreciates with Silvestre De Sousa booked to do the steering, it could be time for him to get his head in front again where it matters.
Street Parade is the current favourite. He built on a decent seasonal reappearance at Chelmsford when second over five furlongs here earlier this month. The 2lbs rise that he received for that looks workable, but all three of his wins to date have come over the minimum trip and so he has to prove he can get this extra furlong tonight. Another threat is Calder Prince for Tom Dascombe, he is a consistent type who keeps going close but always seems to find or two to beat him and I won't be too shocked if again he finds at least a couple too quick for him now back sprinting.
