Bets Of The Day: Scorpion plan hatched for Sherwood mare

Will Oliver Sherwood's Taniokey trade short enough to lay on Friday?

Alan Dudman tackles a couple of National Hunt cards on Friday as he begins his seven day stint in the tipping chair...

"This fits in perfectly with my 'Scorpion Strategy', as I think a fair few of his offspring are a bit soft in a finish."

Lay in-running Taniokey @ 1.491/2 in the 14:10 at Fontwell

13:50 Hexham - Back Delusionofgrandeur

The line 'delusions of grandeur' has been used in many films, but few can match the delivery of Stephanie to Tony in Saturday Night Fever, great soundtrack, great movie, terrible clothes.

Delusionofgrandeur's price at the Cheltenham January 2015 sales was £100,000, and you could buy a lot of Tavares records with that.

The five-year-old won between the flags in Ireland, but now with Sue Smith, he made his debut for the yard last month at Carlisle. He looked as though he needed the run, but his jumping looked fine, and there was a bit of ability there. Plus, the winner of that race in the north east (Shantou Village) could be quite handy.

The favourite will be Presenting Junior - who is rated 137 over fences, whilst Malcolm Jefferson saddles Ryedale Dancer; who hammered a field in a Hexham bumper.

He is a 6/1 chance on the Sportsbook, but this column is also about highlighting other areas, and I think 2.206/5 in the place market is a reasonable bet.

14:10 Fontwell - Lay Taniokey

The son/daughter of Scorpion klaxon was sounding ahead of Fontwell's second race on Friday. And we could have a chance to target a runner at a short price In-Play.

Taniokey makes her chase debut in this Mares' Beginners race, and she is a five-year-old with an interesting in-running back story. From her six runs over hurdles, she has collected a hat-trick of seconds, in which all three traded at around 1.351/3 to 1.501/2.

This fits in perfectly with my 'Scorpion Strategy', as I think a fair few of his offspring are a bit soft in a finish. Of course, Oliver Sherwood's mare could improve for the switch to fences, and it's slightly annoying that Emily Gray is in the line-up, as her hurdling form makes her the one to beat.

Taniokey however, should travel a fair bit better than the 7.06/1, so she's certainly back-to-lay material, but I'll hope to get her turned over at around 1/2.
