Bets of the Day: It's time Lettheriverrundry got his head in front again

Alan Thompson returns to the Bets of the Day column for the next seven days and there are two runners at Market Rasen that have caught his eye...

"He has been getting closer recently, finishing placed in all four of his starts over hurdles. He gets in here off the same mark as he did in his last two outings and the extra half a mile today should be to his advantage."

Champion jockey Richard Johnson gets the leg up on Lettheriverrundry for Brendan Powell in the opener at Market Rasen and I think he is the one to beat. He hasn't got his head in front since his first race at Towcester in November 2014, but he has been getting closer recently, finishing placed in all four of his starts over hurdles.

He gets in here off the same mark as he did in his last two outings and the extra half a mile today should be to his advantage. He was doing his best work at the end of the race last time out at Exeter and this extra distance should play into his hands.

This looks like a match bet between Lettheriverrundry and Penn Lane from the Warren Greatrex yard, who was sent off the 6/4 favourite last time out at Huntingdon before falling two out. But I think that Lettheriverrundry, who has been well supported in the market on his last two starts, should relish this extended trip and will have the beating of Penn Lane today.

14:20 Market Rasen - Eminent Poet @ 11/4 Sportsbook

This may only be a four runner race but it is also very competitive and you could probably make a case for all the runners. However, I like the Venetia Williams charge Eminent Poet who won twice last season in heavy and soft ground, providing this Montjeu gelding can handle the faster ground today, I think he should take all the beating.

Closest Friend, the only course and distance runner in the field, runs off the same mark (125) as Eminent Poet but has found running off that mark quite tough after winning by 17 lengths here back in October and he could still be a little bit too high.

Mystic Sky has won twice before but both wins were over two miles at Fakenham, she gets a handy mares allowance in this race and Jack Sherwood is taking 5lbs off but I am still not convinced she can get this extended trip.
