Bets Of The Day: Lee can steer Cassie home to Yorkshire win

Alan Dudman begins his tipping week with a bet in the feature race at Goodwood, and also targets the final race at Pontefract on Friday evening...

"In fact, the selection has shaped fairly well in all three starts, and she'll have no problem with the ground. She's a similar type to the second favourite here (Benjamin Thomas) yet is double the price."

15:45 Goodwood - Monarchs Glen to bounce back

I am prepared to give another chance to the feisty Monarchs Glen, who wouldn't be an obvious one following a disappointing run in the Sandown Classic Trial.

Described as "strong-headed" by his trainer John Gosden, he was buzzed up prior to racing at the Esher venue and was mounted on the course. Those were obvious excuses for his effort last time out. He is better than that.

He also showed his keen nature to win a handicap at Kempton from a mark of 87. He looked good in that race with a fantastic burst of pace at the junction to seal the win, so I am prepared to forgive him for the run at Sandown.

Of course he is a little spirited, but the cheekpieces are on the for the first time this afternoon, and a repeat of the front-running tactics from Kempton would do the trick. Monarchs Glen also has crucial track form around here from two maidens (winning on his second start).

Gosden has won this race three times (two with St Leger horses Masked Marvel and Michelangelo), and the acceleration of Monarchs Glen could be a good weapon here - unfortunately he didn't show it at Sandown.

21:00 Pontefract - Haslam to continue decent run

Trainer Ben Haslam is in a bit of form at the moment, and I am a firm believer in stable runners when they are hot. Throw into the mix the price of the yard's Castle Hill Cassie - then we could have a bet at around 5.04/1 for the final race at Pontefract. In fact, Haslam's form in both codes since the 8th May includes three winners, four seconds and five thirds. That isn't bad for a small team.

First up there's a Sir Michael Stoute newcomer to deal with in the shape of Romanticism. He's a son of War Front, but he is also around the 2.1011/10 mark - so hopefully he'll make the price on our bet who has established form for this maiden.

Castle Hill Cassie's latest of three starts came at Catterick over 7f. She wasn't given a hard time behind Stoute's Ghadaayer - and that one could be quite good as she had form behind the subsequent Nell Gwyn winner Daban at Kempton.

In fact, the selection has shaped fairly well in all three starts, and she'll have no problem with the ground. She's a similar type to the second favourite here (Benjamin Thomas) yet is double the price.

Dropping back down to 6f is a big plus, and I expect she'll have her experience put to good use from her draw in four.
