Bets of the Day: Fahey can make it back-to-back wins in the Gimcrack
Alan Thompson returns to the BB tipping chair and he is kicking off his week with two from day three of the York Ebor Festival...
"He certainly is in the could be anything category"
Space Traveller can continue his unbeaten record
The Gimcrack Stakes is a Group 2 contest over six furlongs and Richard Fahey has a good chance of making it back-to-back wins. After winning this last year with Sands Of Mali he has another two-year-old colt Space Traveller who looks like he has all the credentials to take this. He certainly is in the "could be anything" category after winning both of his starts to date without Daniel Tudhope having to really ask him to do much. However, this is a step into group company and will be his toughest test to date, but he is clearly going the right way and hasn't disappointed so far.
Another winner of both his starts is Shine So Bright and has shown some smart form but I get the impression his better racing days will be when he is running over much further than todays trip but a one that is of more interest at a bigger price is the grey Showout. He won a novice race at Brighton in impressive fashion by five lengths last time out and he was giving weight away to the remainder of the field that day. He certainly needs to step up again to land this but the stable are in form and at a double figure price he could be the one to chase Space Traveller home.
Mystic Flight could be of a nice opening
Roger Varian's Mystic Flight lost nothing in defeat last time out, running under a double penalty on the all weather at Chelmsford City. He chased home a horse called Honey Man that day, finishing a couple of lengths away but he was trying to give 14lbs to a horse who won at Kempton off 89 on Wednesday. His opening level of 95 could massively underestimate Roger Varian's charge here who has improved with each start and is a two time winner on quick ground at 7/1 and with 16 currently going to post he has to be an each way selection on his first try at handicapping.
One that will be doing his best work at the end of the race is Crack On Crack On and the race could be run to suit a closer and looks the main danger.
