Alan Thompson returns today and kicks off his week with two selections from the afternoon televised meeting at Newmarket and the evening card at Kempton...
"She has raced three times over today's trip and has a 100% record, her two defeats have come over a mile and the drop back to seven today will very much be in her favour"
I like the look of John Gosden's three-year-old filly Dabyah in the Group 2 at HQ today. Her latest start was a very good fourth in the Coronation Cup at Ascot where she finished behind Winter and that form in this company gives her strong claims. She also goes well fresh, winning on her first racecourse appearance and then following up after a 69 day absence and also a 202 day break before she won the Fred Darling, both wins coming at Newbury under the steerage of today's jockey Frankie Dettori.
She has raced three times over today's trip and has a 100% record, her two defeats have come over a mile and the drop back to seven today will very much be in her favour. She has won on soft and firm ground so is proven on any ground conditions, I think she'll be very tough to beat today.
I am hoping the final race of the day is worth waiting for, Alan King runs his charge Sula Island in handicap company for the first time. The King team do well with this type and the filly has shown promise on all her starts to date, her opening mark of 72 makes her very interesting in this field. She is the highest rated runner in the race but with only three runs to her name she is also the runner that has the most potential to improve.
Although still a maiden she finished a respectable second on her last outing where she had the odds-on favourite, rated 77, a couple of lengths behind her. It's her first outing on the all weather but providing she acts on the surface she has to be involved at the business end of the race.
