Alan Dudman had a second at a huge BSP of 30.029/1 with Extra Elusive yesterday, and he has two bets for Sunday who both line up at Doncaster....
"Quick ground is a must, and it looks as if he'll have that for Saturday. He is worth an each-way interest at a big price."
Verdon can upset favourite Willie John
15:45 Doncaster - Back Red Verdon @ 3.505/2
The 1m4f Conditions event at 15:45 is typical for this type of race, but the straightforward answer to solve the puzzle could be Red Verdon. If fully tuned-up for a return to action.
I'm with Ed Dunlop's runner as there are holes in plenty. Two horses are making their reappearances after 606 and 683 days, whilst Willie John cost 1.9million, and that price tag can be a bit of a burden and these sort of horses tend to go off shorter than they deserve to be.
That's why I am with Red Verdon - who is the best horse on official ratings at 110 and has achieved far more than Willie John has so far.
He brings to the table genuine Group 2 and Group 3 form, and his effort in last summer's Hardwicke behind Crystal Ocean should prove to be too strong for this field.
He stays well and good ground is fine, my one nagging doubt is whether he'll need the outing after two international races (including the Caulfield Cup in Australia), but I am happy to take a bit of a chance in a race full of bigger question marks.
20/1 each-way selection in Amateur Riders' race
17:30 Doncaster - Back Luv U Whatever Win and Place
If you like big fields then you'll love the Doncaster handicaps on the Sunday. I'm going for possibly the hardest one, with the Amateur Riders' race worth a look.
We've got a horse in here that's well-handicapped in the shape of Luv U Whatever, and I am backing him to bounce back after a shocking effort on the Fibresand at Southwell in February. He has gone well on that surface in the past, so that's a slight worry, but can you back anything with total confidence in a 23-runner race of this nature?
I am hoping the small break will work wonders, but he is undeniably running from a dangerous mark of 67. He was rated 80 in September.
He produced some good handicap runs last term and he goes really well for today's rider Becky Smith - who has judged pace to perfection from the front when riding him to a couple of wins previously.
Today's trip of 1m4f is his optimum, but he does stay a bit further, which helps as they race from quite a long way out at Donny. Quick ground is a must, and it looks as if he'll have that for Sunday. He is worth an each-way interest at a big price. He was 20/1 on the Sportsbook yesterday evening.
This week so far: +2.50
Previous week: -2.80
2018 P&L: + 44.91
