Alan's Newcastle selection Scenery was only just denied yesterday at a BSP of 16 (he hit a low of 1.24), but he is hoping to get amongst the winners with two confident selections at Cheltenham and Doncaster on Saturday...
"The form of his run behind Traffic Fluide at Ascot in the Sodexo Gold Cup over 3m makes him a big player in this, and I expect him to go close from a mark of 152."
Henderson to bag another prize at Prestbury Park
There are no secrets nor fancy frills with this selection, as Janika really stands out as a bet in the 13:50 at Cheltenham.
Yes, he's towards the top of the market at 7/2 on the Sportsbook, but I was really impressed with his UK debut at Ascot just before Christmas when he was beaten by the giant Hell's Kitchen.
That was Janika's first run for 265 days and he travelled ever so well. Maybe there was a bit of tiredness up the notorious Ascot stiff finish, so there's every chance he can improve on that. He certainly moved sweetly enough to suggest he could be a bit better than a 145 handicapper.
Indeed, the assessor has raised the horse to 150, so he'll have to be smart. He looked it, though, and it's interesting he holds an entry in the Ryanair - a race for which he is 33/1.
Smooth travelling Mauresque the one to back for feature
15:15 Doncaster - Back Art Mauresque @ 11.010/1
The Sky Bet Chase is a race I will always have a punt in and whilst the fields at Doncaster are not particularly large for the ITV contests, the feature on Town Moor is one to take the Exchange odds of 11.010/1 on Art Mauresque.
His trainer Paul Nicholls says in his column that the fast ground and flat track will suit him, and the going is a key factor. It's been pretty quick this term at Donny, and that's exactly what the horse needs as he'll travel better than anything. With that in mind, he is a great In-Play trade to get your stake back or play for profitable green book all round.
A recent run in the Peterborough Chase was a lacklustre effort, but it's interesting Nicholls says in his column that he can do that; ie throw in the odd bad one.
The form of his run behind Traffic Fluide at Ascot in the Sodexo Gold Cup over 3m makes him a big player in this, and I expect him to go close from a mark of 152. He has always had the look of a horse with a decent pot in him - especially on quick ground.
