Ferguson's horse looks the right choice on Tapeta debut
17:15 Newcastle - Back The Right Choice @ 5.04/1
With inspections at the two jumps' fixtures, there is little point going with bets at Exeter or Leicester. Mind you, racing at the Devon track recently has been impossible to see through the fog.
Fingers crossed they get the go ahead, but let's press on with Tuesday's bets.
Rookie trainer James Ferguson sends The Right Choice to the north east, and surely he has to go close following a couple of solid efforts. Last time at Southwell he finished second but in no way shirked the issue over 6f, prior to that, he raced on the fibresand at 7f, but it looked to me as though he didn't quite get home.
A stiff six suits and this will be his first try on Tapeta. He can still win from 67, and rider George Rooke is well worth his 3lb claim at the moment as an in-form apprentice.
Back Atwaar to follow up Wolves success
19:15 Newcastle - Back Atwaar @ 9.08/1
The final selection of the day runs in the nightcap, and I'm sticking with Atwaar for this 6f handicap as she's been on a roll this winter.
She got up to score under the excellent Faye McManoman last time at Wolverhampton, and she renews the partnership for this race. For that victory she made up plenty of ground from the turn to reel in the leader, and with her ability to stay 7f, the stiff sprint at Newcastle should really suit her.
That success was a personal best, and I'd rather back her than Ken's Sam's, who hasn't won for a while and can often need luck in running, and he looks a little too short in the market considering his profile.
