Bets Of The Day: Waterproof can play a major part at Chelmsford

Alan's off to Essex tonight for his two bets at Chelmsford

Between The Waters traded at 1.171/6 in the run for Alan yesterday but could only manage second. He is hoping to go one better with a pair of picks for Tuesday's Chelmsford card...

"Kempton was riding on the slow side for his latest effort, and there is a chance Shaun Keightley's runner could outstay them."

Back Waterproof @ 9.08/1 in the 19:40 at Chelmsford

Fanshawe's Charm can build on debut at Kempton

17:40 Chelmsford - Back Turn On The Charm @ 4.77/2

Some powerful connections from Newmarket are sending runners for the Chelmsford 17:40.

Sir Michael Stoute has two regally-bred horses in the shape of Chairman Power and Prince Imperial.

Charlie Appleby also has entered a well-bred son of Dubawi.

However, I am sticking with experience and will be backing the James Fanshawe-trained Turn On The Charm.

He showed a fair bit of ability at Kempton over 7f, and I expect him to improve on that with an extra furlong - which should suit on pedigree.

He was on the outside when he chased the steady pace, and that bit of extra experience could serve him well considering he was a little keen through the early part. That Kempton run is a solid piece of form for this, and I am happy to take around the 5.0 mark.

Waterproof can outstay rivals

19:40 Chelmsford - Back Waterproof @ 9.08/1

With the rather inclement weather at the moment, and inspections for Catterick and Leicester for Tuesday, Waterproof is an apt selection for a rather moderate race, and we'll stick with the all-weather again given the conditions elsewhere.

It's mostly class six stuff at the Essex venue, but Waterproof showed a much improved effort at Kempton recently over 1m4f.

He wore cheekpieces for the first time and received a prominent ride, so it's a plus coming back down in distance to 1m2f if he pushes on again.

Kempton was riding on the slow side for his latest effort, and there is a chance Shaun Keightley's runner could outstay them.

It's a poor race, and I would rather take him over Sharp Operator - who has form over shorter.
