Bets Of The Day: Star apprentice Ghiani can guide home Honfleur

Kempton all-weather
It's a return to the all-weather on Thursday evening for Alan

Alan Dudman ends his latest stint in the tipping chair and signs off at Kempton with a pair of evening selections...

"This will be her second run in a handicap, and from 70, she could turn out to be better than that."

Back Honfleur @ 9.08/1 in the 20:00 at Kempton

Charlie can be lightning fast from good mark

19:30 Kempton - Back Lightning Charlie @ 8.07/1

Kempton wasn't a happy place last night, with C'Est No Mour faring best in fourth out of the Wednesday selections, but I am hoping we can sign off on better note with a pair of bets for tonight.

Bet one is Amanda Perrett's Lightning Charlie, who hasn't won for a while, but he can stake a claim in a rather open-looking sprint handicap at 19:30 and could be worth chancing at a decent price.

He has plenty in his favour - with a drop in class, race fitness and course and distance form on his side.

Plus, he is very well handicapped, and that really swings me towards him. He races from 70 on Thursday evening, which is very attractive considering he won at the track in a better class last October from 83.

He usually gets behind in his races, so he could be the type to trade higher in the run if you like to explore those trading angles - but he gets my vote for this.

Stamina the key for Stoute filly

20:00 Kempton - Back Honfleur @ 9.08/1

Some in-form fillies are set to race in the 20:00 - and quite a few of the powerful yards from Newmarket are represented.

Sir Michael Stoute is one, and his Honfleur showed enough in her handicap debut last time out at Yarmouth to keep onside for this 1m4f race.

Formerly with the master Luca Cumani, she is one of the switchers to Stoute and still races in Cumani's Fittocks Stud silks - and most of those are bred for a trip in time.

That looked to be the case at Yarmouth - she was green, missed the break and was on and off the bridle, but she finished third and should excel granted a stamina test. The blinkers on for the first time will certainly help judged on her latest effort.

This will be her second run in a handicap, and from 70, she could turn out to be better than that. Apprentice of the moment Marco Ghiani claims 5lb, and from a low weight, I expect to see a bit more from her on Thursday evening.
