Bets Of The Day: Out can be top ranking at Catterick

Alan Dudman makes his return to Bets Of The Day, and with York's Ebor meeting just around the corner, he has three selections for Friday...

"He has a good draw in four, and goes handicapping for the first time fresh from his best ever run at Redcar two weeks ago. They went a good gallop in that race, and he finished well in soft ground; the first time he really showed his hand."

Back Outrank @ 6.05/1 in the 18:40 at Catterick

16:30 Newbury - Back Deeds Not Words

Kinematic is an obvious one judged on his juvenile form. The market hasn't exactly missed him though - and he was backed into 7/2 on the Sportsbook late on Thursday evening.

He could prove to be very well handicapped, but he needs to eliminate those headstrong tendencies.

Another horse from a good mark is Deeds Not Words - and he is the pick at a much bigger 12/1.

Sprinters struggle to hold their form, and this horse has thrown in some shockers. However, his mark reflects that, and he is much lower now since scoring at Newmarket last term (from a mark of 88). He had a specific set of circumstances that day - a low weight in soft going. I like the fact he has won over 6f too, I am just hoping for rain.

17:00 Newbury - Lay Kazziana

Kazziana looked the part for her debut run at Nottingham. It's not surprising given her top relatives. If you were building an identikit Godolphin horse, you couldn't want for better parents in Kazzia and Sharmardal.

Despite the fact she was a looker in the paddock, she didn't find an awful lot in that Colwick Park maiden. She moved up (from off the pace) looking a danger, and having traded as short as 1.61 in-play, she was well beaten to finish third. She was also backed as joint-favourite too.

This looks a deeper race, with big yards such as John Gosden and Roger Varian represented. There are also plenty of horses with experience, and those efforts look better than Kazziana's.

There are two ways to skin a cat here (or a Kazz), you can order a lay in-running at a similar price to her Nottingham defeat. Or the place lay around 1.9110/11.

18:40 Catterick - Back Outrank

I'll keep this simple; Outrank has potential from a mark of 69 in this small field nursery for trainer Mark Johnston.

He has a good draw in four, and goes handicapping for the first time fresh from his best ever run at Redcar two weeks ago. They went a good gallop in that race, and he finished well in soft ground; the first time he really showed his hand.

Rain by the evening would be a big plus, but at 5.04/1 to 6.05/1 on the exchange, he is worth a bet.
