Belle Vue hosts the Betfair Laurels on Thursday night

"Taylors Sky, the Derby champion, all but wrapped up the Greyhound of the Year title when winning the Henlow Derby live on Sky on Thursday."

Leading runners prepare for Belle Vue on Thursday night. Meanwhile, Lollie calls it a day and Taylors Sky looks a certainty for annual honour...

Eden Star and Tudor Prince could provide racegoers and TV viewers with a quite stunning buckle if the pair come through their semi-finals of the Betfair Laurels at Belle Vue on Thursday. The Barrie Draper-trained Romford Puppy Cup and Puppy Derby winner was tardy at the start, but recovered to win in a best-of-the-night in 27.96sec - and by some eight lengths too!

Also a winner of his heat was Harry Williams' strong-running Steel City Cup and All England Cup second Tudor Prince who won in 28.09sec, while other heats were won by Oneco Black (28.01), Longwood Fantasy (28.16), Leos Options (28.20) and Vatican Stein (28.43).

Trap draw for Thursday's Betfair Laurels semi-finals: -
First: 1 Blackshaw Stacie, 2 Vatican Stein, 3 Tudor Prince, 4 Longwood Fantasy (m), 5 Droopys Maxwell (w), 6 Graigues Chief (w).

Second: 1 Starmount Jake, 2 Little Gaffer, 3 Onyougojoe, 4 Farloe Luigi (m), 5 Longwood Days (m), 6 Whitefort Mac (w).

Third: 1 Drumcove Lad, 2 Eden Star, 3 Leos Options (m), 4 Hitman Tommy (m), 5 Yahoo Jamie (m), 6 Oneco Black (w).

A stud career now beckons for Jimmy Lollie, the Greyhound of the Year and star sprinter, who was retired after Henlow's Sky meeting last week. The Seamus Cahill-trained flyer won 71 open races in a glittering career in which he won two GBGB Sprinter of the Year titles as well as the overall honour, to add to his many achievements on the track.
These included numerous track records, two National Sprint titles at Nottingham and a live appearance on Sky Sports News as he attempted to break the record for number of open-race successes in a calendar year.

And while he could only match El Boss's 2000 record of 37 after defeat to Sleeping Urban live on TV, he goes down in history as the second winningmost open-racer of all time behind the former star hurdler El Tenor.

The King is dead, long live the King. That came to the minds of Hove racegoers on Sunday after You Mind Me bolted home in a two-bend sprint at the Sussex venue. Frank Taylor's dog smashed a 12-year-record at Sittingbourne the run previously and proved that was no one-off as he trapped last but unleashed a stunning burst of pace to hit the bend in front at the turn and post a fast time.

His main target in the Nottingham National Sprint and already comparisons are being drawn with Ravage Again, whose style was slow away, rocket to the bend, as opposed to Jimmy Lollie's electronic-like trapping.

And in other news in the world of greyhound racing . . . .

Taylors Sky, the Derby champion, all but wrapped up the Greyhound of the Year title when winning the Henlow Derby live on Sky on Thursday. The GBGB Awards take place in January, in London.

Nick Savva and Charlie Lister are teaming up as part of a squad for the upcoming Premier League competition, to be launched at Doncaster in November.

And the 17 bookmaker-owned tracks are set to compete in the BAGS Track Championship, with prize-money of £150,000 up for grabs. The first round of regional intertrack contests takes place at Monmore on November 11.
