Three heats of a marathon competition headline Romford's Friday card with Droopys Field easily rating the best prospect in heat three (21:24). Alison Ingram's runner clocked the fastest time so far this year when slamming Never Doubt Me last week and with a record of three from seven over the 750m trip, which is further enhanced to a two from four strike rate when drawn trap one she looks sure to take all the beating.
Never Doubt Me will have his supporters in heat one (20:50) but with track record holder Avit On Bertha on his immediate inside, it may pay to side with Golden Jacket semi-finalist Mollys Hope to make it four from six over the CD for Paul Young. The other heat (21:06) looks a lot tougher to call with preference for Watch N Learn, who almost belied huge odds at Hove last week and was a good winner over this trip last backend, though only marginal.
East Anglian Derby winner Any Dak appears to be trapping a lot better at Romford these days and can make it three wins on the spin in a competitive four bend contest (22:11) where Aero Twizzle and Sharons Return could collide on the run up.
John Mullins' kennel continues in peak form, as a high profile double at Wimbledon on Tuesday confirmed, and Tyrur Andy, in the best form of his career, is hard to oppose over 575m (22:26) after an impressive win over the same trip seven days ago. In-form Hometown Day appears less effective at lids rise when drawn in trap six and can be opposed.
Liz McNair was also in double form at the 'Don and can strike with the returning Skate On (20:02), whose sprint trials could hardly have gone any better and who can take her unbeaten record to four over Romford's 400m trip
Elsewhere Mash Mad Snowy looks best in the hurdle contest (19:46), Ilewin Allot should have enough early speed to dominate in the 20:18 and Lough Messi may prove the 'speed of the speed' in a hot looking 21:56.
While this column tends to focus primarily on Open race action, it is the A2 at Hove on Thursday evening (21:40) that throws up that night's best bet. Even before trap five was deemed vacant when the card was finalised, Maireads Dandy, who had been competing admirably in A1 company looked 'well in' given his class drop and Derek Knight's charge with his potent mix of early speed and stamina looks sure to take the beating.
At first glance a draw in trap four appears far from ideal for wide runner Britania Joan in the 475m contest (21:06), but her record from the black box is far from a negative one and she may offer a spot of value against more obvious claims from Tap And Go, who admittedly caught the eye in defeat last week.
Musical Kaka will surely win a 695m maiden before too long, but after last week's exploits has to be opposed (20:34) with Buoy Johnny, a 2980 dog over four bends, taken to make a successful step up in trip first time for Paul Young.
Whatever the fate of Kaka, Seamus Cahill can add to his big race success with Droopys Odell the other night courtesy of Millwards Joker (20:50), who should be ideally drawn in trap one given that Ballymac Zenab moved off from the same trap two box last week.
Cahill can also pick up graded races courtesy of Get On Katie, an A4 winner last November, who is drawn to dominate in the A6 (21:56) and Power Drive, who has been improving on the clock with each run recently and can hopefully break just as well as he has been from trap five, when returning to the stripes in A4 company (22:11)
