Seven days ago Greyhound of the Year Farloe Tango broke kennelmate and reigning Regency champion Fear Emoski's heart when sauntering past her to victory in the opening gambit for this year's competition. While the case for Emoski is stronger tonight (21:06) with the switch to trap one set to help her scoot further clear, when push comes to shove can she hold Tango for 695m? For punters it's all about the percentage chance but even if Emoski were to hit 4.57/2 this is just one of those occasions when you feel that ultimately Tango will again come out on top.
While not to the same degree as the 'clash of the Lister titans', the other two semi-finals also have the look of a match about them, but after his emphatic victory last week - and in the joint fastest time alongside Farloe Tango - Stainless Steel earns a confident vote against Midway Nick (20:50). Paul Young's charge accounted for early pace rival Crossfield Delia last week and while that rival's draw closer to the fence is a concern, he can again control the early fractions.
Calzaghe Vet, formerly Killieford Toast, ran a pleasing first race at Hove when behind Midway Nick last week and has already been supported for his semi-final (20:34) but Watch N Learn runs this CD as well as any and her excellent track craft and late running style can again yield dividends.
Best bet of the night comes early on with Droopys Acapulco expected to dominate the opening 475m contest (19:31). His best form over the trip looks a step above his rivals and he can make all. Express Coral won well over the 515m trip just after Christmas and having shown early dash in her comeback race last week should have enough pace to clear Aero Scramble in the Ladies race at 20:18.
Short odds players can expect to collect via Helenas Sailor (19:46) and Lode Esteem (21:40), both prolific winners over their respective course and distance.
Droopys Ultana clocked the fastest time over 575m in the heats of the Dual Distance Trophy at Romford last week and the step back up to 750m will hold no fears for Dean Childs runner at Romford on Friday night (21:24). Likely to edge middle from trap two, that should ensure she avoids any contact with early pace rival Tuna Crunch in trap one, who steps up to eight bends for the first time. Never Doubt Me is potentially well drawn in trap five and would be a big threat were he able to get to the front early on.
Despite defeat in the heats, Borna Karma is a confident selection to claim the supporting Easter Bunny final (21:06). Jim Reynolds bitch has won three of her last four over the trip and can reverse form with Karma Cause who may prove vulnerable late on even if he did happen to trap in front.
Banker of the night has to be Aayamzamodel for Mark Wallis to make it five from seven over the 575m trip (22:26) having comfortably accounted for rivals Smiler Jack and Hometown Day, who admittedly lost his chance at the traps, last week. The champion trainer can also be on the scoresheet with hurdler Cornamaddy Jumbo (20:18) and Aero Nemesis, a multiple winner in Ireland, who can overcome Golden Sprint finalist Express Max (21:40)
