RPGTV Tips: Romford live tonight plus Kent Champion Hurdle

Essex Vase clues a plenty on RPGTV from Romford tonight
Essex Vase clues a plenty on RPGTV from Romford tonight

Romford's regular Open race meeting headlines RPGTV's Friday action. Darrell Williams pinpoints the night's best bets and looks ahead to the Kent Champion Hurdle final at Crayford on Saturday...

"Fourth in the Northern Puppy Derby, Wanted is a youngster that gave the impression right from his first start that six bends could not come soon enough and he is strongly fancied to claim this event"

With the Essex Vase kicking off next Friday, the feature Terry Jago Memorial final (21:24)  should offer plenty of clues to the Category One competition - the first two rounds of which are live on RPGTV ahead of the Sky Sports covered final.

Adageo Bob, expected by many to take the Champion Stakes in his stride after total domination of the 575m races during the summer, failed to make it past the semi-final, but is fancied to put himself spot on for the Vase even though he will have to overcome an unfamiliar trap four berth (one from two over CD). Mark Wallis' charge sits head and shoulders over his rivals in terms of time after his winning performance on Monday and should have enough early to at worst sit handy behind Fivestar Clipper, who he comfortably accounted for four nights ago, before securing the prize.

Wallis has taken in a couple of former useful Ted Soppitt inmates and can also be on the mark with Wanted in a Maiden Stayers event (20:34). Fourth in the Northern Puppy Derby, he is a youngster that gave the impression right from his first start that six bends could not come soon enough and he is strongly fancied to claim this event over the 575m.

Jimmy Nailed On, also for owner Paul Clark, is another that has ventured south to join the champion trainer and looks a big player himself for the Vase after an impressive victory in his first 575m race last week. However with pacey Hometown Day on his immediate outside  he is reluctantly passed over this time in favour of Janoan, whose draw as the sole wide seed coupled with her strong running style was enough to just tip the balance in her favour.

Jimmy Hayton has enjoyed a stellar season and Lowgate Zircon, third in the Breeders Produce at Nottingham, appreciated the step back up in trip behind Millwards Master here last week and looks the best option in what in effect is another Vase trial stakes (22:26) over the same 575m trip.

Romford Puppy Cup finalist Ibiza Rocks rates a real good prospect for Kevin Hutton and can step up on his comeback run two weeks ago by utilising an excellent draw inside Lode Henry (22:11) where consistently fast starting Headford Joe might prove the biggest danger.

Barrie Draper sends a team to the Essex circuit and shouldn't go home empty handed with Droopys Gonza on the back of a decent trial last week, and ideally drawn outside five railers, expected to claim a Maiden Stayers contest (20:02)

Consistent starter Phoebes Max, drawn outside rails favouring Droopys San Remo, looks worth a play over 400m (21:06), while Regency runner-up Watch N Learn may prove the best option in the 750m finale (22:40).

Ricky Holloway has a strong grip on the Kent Champion Hurdle final at Crayford on Saturday (20:50) where it may pay to give his Con Te Partiro another chance. The highly touted Grand National semi-finalist only just scrambled into the final after failing to dominate from trap one in the heats and doubts still remain over his stamina. But with kennelmate and market rival Newinn Hawk, far from guaranteed to reproduce his impressive heat victory (a first win in twenty starts), the ex Irish runner back in a middle box rates the percentage call.
