Magical Icarus looks hot to win again at Monmore

Monmore's annual Lol Jones Memorial meeting never fails to impress with tonight's renewal offering a host of good betting opportunities as Darrell Williams explains...

"Few greyhounds can match the six-bend strike rate of Magical Icarus and it’s hard not to envisage David Jeans runner further enhancing that tally over 684m (21:32) and stretch his present winning run to six"

While TV coverage is restricted to the betting shops the action is streamed live via betfair.com - go to the individual racecards - so there's no need to miss a single moment of what promises to be a thrilling card.

Short-price favourites look set to abound and while it's a case of working out which ones to back and which to leave alone - or lay - it's a must play card for backers who love a skinny one!

Top of that pile is Brigadier Bullet over the 630m trip (19:07) having scorched home in a similar contest last weekend to make it two very impressive victories over the CD. With the wide draw once again secured he can quickly gain a prominent position and looks set to take all the beating.

Another Gold for Droopys?

Droopys Gold continues to churn out the wins and is hard to resist over 480m (20:27) where Seamus Cahill's charge can make every post a winning one to take his local record to three from three and his current winning sequence to five.

Cahill's Sporting Dave found little joy against his kennel companion last week but can compete a short-price double for connections in a duplicate contest (20:57).

Icarus to take on the magic

Few greyhounds can match the six-bend strike rate of Magical Icarus and it's hard not to envisage David Jeans runner further enhancing that tally over 684m (21:32) and stretch his present winning run to six.

I'd also fancy Carl Perry's Geelo Blissful after a brace of solid trials in the bitches' contest (19:22) despite the presence of former Juvenile winner Bull Run Button who is unbeaten in three previous starts at this track but may need this after a long absence.

Red a boost for Roman

Roman Empire endured a rough ride in the Monmore Puppy Derby final but having bagged the inside draw this time can bounce back in a hot puppy contest (19:54).

Elsewhere Roxholme Hat will be all the rage in the sprint (18:49) but may not be as far ahead of Calzaghe Flash as the betting suggests and a small interest on the latter makes marginally more appeal.

Wagering in 416m contests is often fraught with danger but at the odds course specialist Fernhill Rex is worth a small interest (21:47).
