Romford's Golden Sprint steams into action tonight with all six heats live on RPGTV (Sky 175) and Darrell Williams has plenty of bets for the Friday night action.
"Ballymac Micko has clearly found the 400m trip to his liking with five wins in nine starts. Clockwork breaks have proved his forte while the ability to handle most draws can also serve to his benefit and I fancy him to make all as the night’s best bet"
In a highly competitive renewal, the trial stakes won by Forest Jason seven nights ago that may prove the race to focus on.
For a greyhound set to turn three on Sunday he has had very little racing with just 16 recorded races, the highlight of which undoubtedly was a wide margin victory in the final of a 480m contest on Derby final night.
Having shrugged off a layoff dating back to the Laurels final just before Christmas when winning at Monmore a fortnight ago he stepped up to post an impressive victory over in-form Ballymac Micko on his first look at the Romford circuit last Friday to suggest he can play a major role in this traditional early season sprint competition.
His draw in a particularly tough second heat (19:49) while not ideal with pacey Bubbly Cain - who shot round in a trial the other morning - on his inside while Puppy Cup finalist Badminton Donal also served a reminder of his own talents with victory on his comeback last week but Julie Bateson's charge can have the measure of them both.
Micko makes sense
While Ballymac Micko may have found Forest Jason a handful last week Jim Reynolds' youngster has clearly found the 400m trip to his liking with five wins in nine starts. Clockwork breaks have proved his forte while the ability to handle most draws can also serve to his benefit and I fancy him to make all as the night's best bet in the fourth heat (20:21).
Success beckons for Seaglass
Consistent Seaglass Shadow can also be on the mark in heat five (20:38) with Yvonne Gaskin's bitch well drawn outside rails seeking Bubbly Buster, whose trials suggest he may need this return. Tasty Treat, another for Julie Bateson, is more interesting, and should step up on last week's sighter with inclusion in the forecast suggested.
Double up for Wallis?
Improving Towstar Billy looks good enough to win heat three (20:06) where returning Magical Houdini may prove the biggest threat while another Mark Wallis' inmate Tiffield Blueboy appears best in a very winnable final heat (20:53).
The opening heat (19:33) is arguably the trickiest to solve but Savana Jessica should offer better value than progressive Druids Brazona who can chase her home.
Forest Jason to win 1.5* 19:49
Towstar Billy to win 1* 20:06
3 x 5 ½* RFC 20:06
Ballymac Micko to win 2* 20:21
Seaglass Shadow to win 1* 20:38
2 x 4 ½* RFC 20:38
