"It is all but impossible to find an alternative to long odds-on favourite Roxholme Nidge in tonight’s feature. The exercise therefore has to be to play the forecast. and I’m taken with the local runner Mary Goodnight who appears under-valued in the market"
Try as I might it is all but impossible to find an alternative to long odds-on favourite Roxholme Nidge in tonight's feature (21:06). It seems almost another era since Hayley Keightley's prolific winning charge won the Puppy Cup at Romford, eclipsing one of the 'unbreakable' clocks in the process and the double-time Steel City Cup winner looks set to ping out and quickly put the East Anglian Derby final to bed. His aggregate 20 length winning margin in the three qualifying rounds and upwards of four lengths and more over the opposition on the clock makes any other result extremely unlikely.
A goodnight for Mary?
The exercise therefore has to be to play the forecast. Monmore Gold Cup winner Seaglass Tiger is the logical pick even if his dominance when drawn trap one hasn't quite been so effective here. I wouldn't put you off the the 3 to beat 1 forecast, but I'm more taken with the local runner Mary Goodnight who won the other semi-final. While I would have preferred Sandra Clayton's youngster - touted here as one to keep on side ahead of the first round - in trap six she still appears to have been under-valued in the market and with Dower Product likely to allow her a pitch early on the strong runner can chase Nidge home to claim the minor honours.
Don't miss Mist
Scotch Mist returned from four months off the card with a huge run when dead-heating with Seaglass Tiger in the first round and then endured no luck whatsoever when desperately looking for the rails from a trap four draw in the next round. A 575m winner at Romford in the spring Erica Samuels' local runner is strongly fancied to make amends in a supporting four bend contest (20:37).
Having touted another Samuels' runner Jakes Magic both ahead of the first round of the Derby here a fortnight ago and then again in last week's Puppy Cup heats at Romford I'm hoping it can be third time lucky in the puppy contest (19:19). This represents a big drop in class and although untried from trap one he should have enough early speed to quickly control proceedings.
Good Karma showed marked improvement when dotting up over six bends at Central Park the other week and Lauren Sawyer's charge can confirm last week's form with Gabriel over the same 659 trip (20:23).
Despite wide antics at the corner in the heats Troy Bella should confirm heat form with Bramble Milburn in the Sprint final (20:51) while Avastorm is drawn for success in the Derby Purse final (21:22).
