US Open Tips: Experienced Jaidee the value bet against young guns in Top Asian market

With two youngsters dominating and three places up for grabs Steve Rawlings really likes the look of the Top Asian market and it's Thongchai Jaidee at 9/1 with the Sportsbook who catches his eye...

"A missed cut when defending can always be forgiven, especially after a couple of weeks of contending, and Jaidee should enjoy this test. At 9/1 he looks a great price, as even if the big two do perform this week, the dangers for third place in this market look few and far between."

Hideki Matsuyama looks a great fit for Chambers Bay but he's only won once on the PGA Tour and he's playing in just his third US Open. He's old beyond his years and looks to have the required patience for what will inevitably be a long and draining championship and I'm not for a second discounting him but it's perfectly feasible that he could have a flat week and blow this market wide open.

Second favourite, Byeong-Hun An, is even less experienced - this is just his second start in any major, having finished tied for 26th at the Open Championship last year. It was impossible not to be extremely impressed by his runaway win at Wentworth on his penultimate start but some sort of dip in form is likely after that maiden European Tour success and he definitely looks worth taking on.

I'm in full agreement with Paul Krishnamurty, that this is a championship where the older more experienced players could come to the fore and one such character is Thai veteran, Thongchai Jaidee, who I thought might go well here.

Jaidee is a great links exponent and he's been in good form of late. He missed the cut when defending the Nordea Masters last time out but prior to that he was 10th in the Irish Open (on a links course) and runner-up to Byeong-Hun An at Wentworth.

A missed cut when defending can always be forgiven, especially after a couple of weeks of contending, and Jaidee should enjoy this test. At 9/1 he looks a great price, as even if the big two do perform this week, the dangers for third place in this market look few and far between.
