The 2016 Ryder Cup on Betfair: Three top value bets for the Hazeltine spectacular

Are you backing Europe to retain the Samuel Ryder Trophy?
Are you backing Europe to retain the Samuel Ryder Trophy?

It's another huge week in the sport of golf and the betting options are dazzling. We all want to end the weekend with a winner or two of course and backing the following three options on the Betfair Sportsbook will pay at an industry leading price...

"Every two years we look at the American side and think they can't be beaten...and (most of the time) they get beat. Going on the trends that joint industry best price of 2/1 looks like immense value."

Back Europe to win @ 2/1

Europe are huge underdogs once again and yet there are some very strong reasons to back them. Most obvious of those is their dominant record in the event over the last 20 years. As Steve Rawlings points out, Europe have won six of the last seven and eight of the last 10. Those two defeats both came on US soil but they won the other three Stateside encounters.

Back Sergio to top score for Europe @ 7/1

Part of the reason behind the US team's overwhelming favouritism is the presence of six debutants in the European team. That might come as a worry to some (though not 2008 Ryder Cup player Oliver Wilson) but the six who have played the event before have stacks of experience.

If having a top Euro pointscorer bet it makes sense to get behind one of the players with Ryder Cup experience and the 7/1 on Sergio Garcia is a standout price. As Paul Krishnamurty says he is a rock-solid option in the market, almost guaranteed to play the first morning and potentially in every session as Darren Clarke chases another win. The Spaniard loves the event and the 7/1, joint best price in the industry, looks a must play.

Back DJ to top score for the US @ 4/1

At 4/1 Dustin Johnson heads the market for top US pointscorer and it's hard to argue with his position at the head of affairs. DJ is coming off a banner year on the PGA Tour, winning his first major as well as the WGC Bridgestone and BMW Championship. This immense hitter is going to be a key man at the ultra-long Hazeltine and can justify favouritism in this market. Sometimes it pays to keep it simple and you won't get better than Betfair's 4/1 on the marketplace so if you want to back DJ you know where to do it!
