#PuntoftheWeek: Zach tops the lot as he clinches The Open Championship
Open Championship winner Zach Johnson topped our #PuntoftheWeek poll this week after his dramatic playoff victory at St Andrews on Monday...
Zach Johnson to win The Open @ 100/1 (48%)
It took Zach Johnson five days and 76 holes to finally claim his second major, as he became the Open Champion at St Andrews on Monday.
Heavy rain and high winds delayed play on Friday and Saturday, forcing the Open to finish on Monday for only the second time in the history of the competition.
Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Padraig Harrington, Danny Willett as well as a host of amateur players all had their chances to land the Claret Jug, but one-by-one their challenges faded.
Zach Johnson opened and closed with rounds of 66 to force a play-off with Marc Leishman and 2010 champion Louis Oosthuizen. Leishman (available each-way at 80/1 prior to the tournament and who took 16% of the #PuntoftheWeek vote this week) bogeyed the first while Oosthuizen and Johnson both made birdies. Zach added a second birdie on the next hole, to take a one shot lead over Oosthuizen which he would retain through the final two holes.
Covert Love to win the Darley Irish Oaks @ 7/1 (36%)
Hugo Palmer and Pat Smullen combined to land the classic at the Curragh last Saturday, but Covert Love had to be supplemented to participate in the race, and it would have seemed a smart investment when she took up the lead from Together Forever inside the final furlong.
Both Jack Naylor and SP Favourite Curvy were found wanting as Covert Love's stamina proved too much.
The St Ledger looks the next obvious target for this lightly raced filly.
