The Open 2018: Major championship stats for this week's tournament in Scotland

Brooks Koepka: Two of his three PGA Tour successes have been the US Open
Brooks Koepka: Man for the majors

Brooks Koepka is fast establishing a reputation for playing well in the majors. Andy Swales provides the stats to highlight form in the four big championships ...

"In his most recent 11 majors, his poorest finish has been a tie-for-21st, and in nine of the last 10 he’s finished inside the top 15."

If anyone is building himself a reputation as a golfer for major occasions, it is American Brooks Koepka.

The 28-year-old from Palm Beach, Florida, recently claimed a second straight US Open crown.

Only once during the last 65 years has a golfer successfully defended America's national championship.

It was just his third title on the PGA Tour, yet two of them have been majors.

But looking beyond these two big wins, his major displays have been extremely consistent anyway.

In his most recent 11 majors, his poorest finish has been a tie-for-21st, and in nine of the last 10 he's finished inside the top 15.

Although Koepka is viewed as one of the longer hitters in the game, he obviously possesses a good touch around the green, judging by his results in these big four events.

He is unlikely to tee-up in Scotland this week as the favourite to hold aloft the Claret Jug, but Koepka has already proved he can play well on links courses following back-to-back top 10s in The Open these past two years.

Major Men

Yet Koepka is not the only current star who seems to be inspired by major events and great courses.

Masters champion Patrick Reed has finally found his feet at this level.

After years of underachieving in the big four tournaments, Reed's last three majors read: 2nd-Won-4th.

Open winner from 2016, Henrik Stenson, remains a regular contender in the big events, while Hideki Matsuyama hasn't finished outside the top 20 in the last seven.

The main doubt over Matsuyama has been his patchy form in 2018 - no top 10s since early January.

Finally, Jason Day might be worth a shout in the Scottish region of Angus.

Despite winning twice this season - at respected venues such as Torrey Pines and Quail Hollow - the Aussie appears to be flying slightly under the radar at present.

The world No 9 failed by a single shot to make it into the play-off at St Andrews three years ago and certainly has the tools to prosper over any layout.
