Thorbjorn Olesen: Enjoying a good run of form during the summer months of 2018

The European Tour heads to Scandinavia for the Nordea Masters in Gothenburg. Before placing a bet, check out the form stats supplied by Andy Swales ...

"England's Richard McEvoy is on a hat-trick following back-to-back victories last month. His first came on the Challenge Tour, before winning the European Open in Germany seven days later."

The European Tour is off to Sweden for this week's Nordea Masters at Hills Golf & Sports Club.

Opened in 2005, Hills is situated around four miles from the country's south-west coast, as the tournament returns to Gothenburg for the first time in 22 years.

A well-wooded venue, with a fair quantity of water, the rolling fairways of Hills rests close to Sandsjöbacka Nature Reserve.

The Nordea Masters marks the first of six straight tournament weeks on the continent of Europe, ahead of next month's Ryder Cup on the outskirts of Paris.

Although Hills has never previously staged a tournament of this importance, it did host an event on the Challenge Tour in 2008.

Low Quality Field

Unfortunately, for the organisers and sponsors, the Nordea Masters has been unable to attract a strong field on this occasion.

This is probably due to a change of dates, with the tournament taking place just one week after the final major championship of the season.

Only two of the world's top 100 pros have made the journey to Sweden and, not surprisingly, both of these are Scandinavian.

In-Form Starters

World No 41 Dane, Thorbjorn Olesen, is the 'top seed' and has flown back from Missouri where he tied-for-56th in the PGA Championship.

Olesen has enjoyed a summer of good form, with his most recent eight starts yielding one victory, two more podium finishes, one other top-10, plus a tie-for-12th in The Open Championship at Carnoustie.

Two weeks ago he tied-third in the WGC-event at Firestone, so it all depends if his trips across the Atlantic and back have left his batteries low, as he prepares to compete in Scandinavia's biggest golf tournament of the year.

Swede Alexander Bjork is the other top-100 golfer in the field, and he too has played in the States these past two weeks.

Hat-Trick Chaser

England's Richard McEvoy is on a hat-trick following back-to-back victories last month.

His first came on the Challenge Tour, before winning the European Open in Germany seven days later.

Scott Vincent is another in-form player, thanks to a brace of runner-up finishes since mid-July.

The world No 161 from Zimbabwe has also posted three other top-10s - all on the Asian Tour - from his last seven outings.

Swede Marcus Kinhult and Jazz Janewattananond of Thailand might be worth a look, as opportunity knocks for many of Europe's lesser lights this week.
