"With no huge headline act with which to promote and publicise this event, tournament organisers have turned to LPGA star Brittany Lincicome to set tongues wagging."

The PGA Tour makes a rare trip to Kentucky, for this week's Barbasol Championship in Nicholasville.

Keene Trace Golf Club, opened in 2007, is located in the north of the state and will be hosting a top level tournament for the first time.

The Keene Run layout, one of two courses at this venue, is parkland in nature and, according to the club's website, has "big greens, big tees, big fairways and big bunkers."

This week's tournament will be only the second PGA Tour event in almost 18 years to be staged in the US state of Kentucky.

But with The Open also taking place - albeit over four thousand miles away in Scotland - the Barbasol Championship will have to accept its second-class status.

Surprise Starter

And with no huge headline act with which to promote and publicise this event, tournament organisers have turned to LPGA star Brittany Lincicome to set tongues wagging.

The two-time major winner becomes only the fourth woman to tee-up in a PGA Tour event, and the first since Michelle Wie 10 years ago.

However, if Lincicome were break into the top 25 it would be a decent storyline, although picking a winner in these low-key events is never easy.

Form Horses

With no course history to analyse, it's all about current form this weekend.

The only golfer teeing-up to have posted back-to-back top-10s on the PGA Tour this month is Joel Dahmen.

The 30-year-old from Washington followed a tie-for-fifth at The Greenbrier, with a joint runner-up spot in Illinois on Sunday.

Mackenzie Hughes has had a brace of top-20s, these past two weeks, otherwise there is little to get excited about regarding current form.

Opportunity Knocks

This could be the week when one of the older guys returns to the winners' enclosure, such as Chad Campbell.

A former Masters runner-up, Campbell last won on the PGA Tour in 2007 and the 44-year-old played well last week when finishing in a tie-for-seventh at the John Deere Classic.

For many of those teeing-up on Thursday, opportunity is certainly knocking in Kentucky where the weakest field of the PGA Tour season lines-up.

And this also applies to the newer members of the Tour, such as Seamus Power.

During his four years in the States, the Irishman has certainly been improving season-by-season.

And like many others taking part this week, world No 301 Power is searching for a maiden title, as well as that all-important Tour exemption.
