Volvo Masters betting

There is sure to be plenty betting excitement when the European Tour's flagship season-ending tournament, the Volvo Masters, gets underway on November 1 as some great names from the past could be involved.

To celebrate its 20-year anniversary, the Volvo Masters will include all past winners, which could give punters a rare chance to bet on old favourites like Nick Faldo and Sandy Lyle at long odds.

But shrewd punters having a bet will not allow sentiment to get in the way of their betting and the odds for in-form current golfers should be checked out.

There will be more than the title up for grabs at Valderrama as the tournament also traditionally determines the Order of Merit winner, meaning there will be a keen interest in the odds and betting throughout the weekend.

India's Jeev Mikha Singh landed the odds when scooping top prize in last year's event, holding off the challenge of Europe's finest to win by one shot and secure his second Tour title.

However, those looking to bet on him to defend the crown, should note he has struggled to repeat that form and has not finished in the top 10 since a joint third at the Hong Kong Open last November.

Padraig Harrington tied for second last year to secure the Order of Merit title and won in 2001, meaning he is sure to be towards the top of the betting, especially given his success in the Irish Open in May and his first major triumph at Carnoustie in July.

Anyone with a bet on the Order of Merit title will be keeping an eye on developments, with the Dubliner at short odds in the betting to defend his crown.

Sergio Garcia is likely to lead the Spanish charge in the betting and will be looking to go one better than 2006, when he finished tied for second. Although he has yet to win a title this year, Garcia's stature and ranking of world number eight is sure to be reflected in his odds.

Although winless in 2007, Justin Rose has been in good form on either side of the Atlantic and could be a sound bet.

Punters looking for an outside bet might fancy Lee Westwood, a winner in 1997. He won in Spain in May, secured three top-10 finishes in September and his odds could offer some value.
