Justin Rose practising at Augusta on Monday

“From just five starts Justin Rose has led twice after day one and after missing last year’s event he’ll be as keen as mustard to get off to flyer once more.”

Our man fancies Justin to get off to a flyer, yet again!

It didn't take me more than a few seconds to decide my pick for this market... Justin Rose looks by some distant the best value candidate.

After a week off to freshen-up, Justin comes to Augusta on the back of two top-5 finishes following his fast-finishing tied 3rd at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and his tied 5th at the Transitions Championship the week before, so he ticks the current form box and he's certainly shown an aptitude for the venue too.

As many do, Rose struggled a bit on his first visit back in 2003, failing to break 70, and his tied 39th placed finish that year was his worse performance to date but he must have learnt something because he returned twelve months later to shoot 67 on day one to lead the field. A second round 71 kept him in the van but a disastrous 81 on the Saturday put pay to his chances and he didn't qualify for two years after that.

He must have been chomping at the bit to get back because on return in 2007 he yet again made a very fast start and led after day one.

From just five starts he's led twice after day one and after missing last year's event he'll be as keen as mustard to get off to flyer once more. KJ Choi often starts well, has a decent Augusta record and could be a viable alternative but for my money Justin's the man.
