The 16th at Augusta – the hole most likely to produce an ace

"Although there wasn't a hole in one last year, Kenny Perry came very close on the final day, at the 16th, and that hole is the key."

The Punter has come up with a strategy to profit from a possible Augusta ace...

Aces at Augusta have been rare. In the 73 previous renewals of the Masters there have been just 19, and in the 1960's, 70's and 80's there was just one in each decade. Making the price for YES of under [2.20] look ludicrously short and a stone cold certain lay, but it's not quite that simple...

Although there wasn't one last year, Kenny Perry came very close on the final day, at the 16th, and that hole is the key.

Of the four par threes, the 16th has seen far and away the most action, being responsible for 11 of the 19, and in recent years the Sunday pin is always in the same spot, which offers a real chance. So much so that in 2004 Padraig Harrington and Kirk Triplett, playing in consecutive groups, both aced it within 10 minutes of each other.

In contrast to the 16th, the fourth hole is the hardest to ace; there has only ever been one there - by Jeff Sluman back in 1992.

So my tactic this year will be to either back NO, or lay YES, from the start, in the hope that there isn't one in the first three days. I'll then back YES or lay NO after round three to guarantee a nice profit. I believe the modern expression is 'simples'...
