Golf's top womens team event heads to Sweden in September (14-16) and betting punters will have to decide between Europe and America.

The female equivalent to the Ryder Cup has become a major sporting event since in was formed in 1990 and those having a bet on this year's event will be taking note that the US team have so far had the edge.

In nine meetings, the USA have collect the trophy six times to Europe's three but it is worth considering Europe's home form when checking the odds on offer. An American team has only won once away from the US, 1996 at Chepstow, something which is likely to be reflected in the betting.

The US team are the current holders of the Cup after a 15.5 to 12.5 victory in Carmel, Indiana two years ago and those eyeing a bet will have noted that they will bring a strong team to Halmstad this month.

The visiting team includes four top ten players, including US Open winner Cristie Kerr and experienced star Julie Inkster - who betting punters will have noted has an excellent record in her six appearances.

Home fans and betting punters could be tempted to look to the four Swedish players to deliver the goods for Europe, with former world number Annika Sorenstam likely to be decent odds to provide plenty of points for her team.

Fellow Swede Helen Alfredsson will captain the European team and her wealth of experience, seven appearances as a player, could persuade those having a bet to back the home side.

Betting punters should also not that the last time the two sides met in Sweden was in 2003, when Europe ran out victors by seven points and a repeat performance is likely to be available at large odds.
