Scott Stallings is making his Match Play debut but he is one of a select few in the field to have a 2014 win to his name already. Jason Dufner sits 63 places below Stallings in the early FedEx Cup standings and has exited the Match Play at the first round stage in each of the last two seasons.

Rickie Fowler's second round 76 last time out at the Northern Trust Open meant he missed his third consecutive cut. However, the youngster insists his game is in good shape and it's only a matter of time before the results arrive. Opponent Ian Poulter's recent results are only marginally more impressive; the American looks to have every chance of causing an upset at a nice price.

Peter Hanson has started the season well after recovering from a back injury that limited his appearances last year. The Swede has a fine Match Play record, including having made the quarter-finals here two years ago. Opponent Dustin Johnson has surprisingly been knocked out of this tournament in the first round in four of the last five seasons.

Bernd Wiesberger looks up against it on paper; the Austrian is playing last year's champion and Match Play maverick Matt Kuchar, who has an envious record here. However, Wiesberger has extra motivation this week, he made the long trip to Arizona last year as first reserve but failed to play any part in the tournament. Expect him to push Kuchar all the way.

Henrik Stenson is the number one seed this week but it's well documented that the Swede has failed to progress past the first round in each of the last four years here. Kiradech Aphibarnrat is another debutant but the big hitting Thai is a birdie machine on his day and is more than capable of extending Stenson's first round exits to five. Mike Norman has profiled Aphibarnrat here.
