Phoenix Open Tips: Four first round three-ball bets at TPC Scottsdale

Can local lad Laird land us a winning wager on day one in Scottsdale?

Dan Geraghty had a tough time last week with all four selections bombing out - but he's confident of building some profits with his day one selections from Scottsdale...

"Martin Laird lives in Scottsdale, knows the course well and clearly likes it as he was third here in 2011."

Martin Laird lives in Scottsdale, knows the course well and clearly likes it as he was third here in 2011. The Scotsman's drives will sail past those of playing partners Michael Thompson and Mike Weir, neither of whom have impressive form at TPC Scottsdale, and won't take much beating.

Marc Leishman has been playing very well recently and has decent course form to boot - the Australian was second last time out and should get the better of Martin Kaymer and Charles Howell III who make up the three-ball.

It's true that Angel Cabrera usually takes a few tournaments to hit top gear, but the Argentinean was 36th here last year, opening with a 66 and he looks a decent price to outscore playing partners YE Yang and Tommy Gainey. The Korean has been creeping back to form of late, but still looks a shadow of his former self. American Gainey makes up the trio and has missed more cuts than he's made in recent times.

Spencer Levin may have missed his last cut but prior to that he made his first six PGA Tour cuts of the season; perhaps the weekend off has refreshed his batteries for a tournament where he finished third on his last appearance in 2012, when he opened with a 65. Playing partners Michael Putnam and Jason Bohn can't match that course form.
