Dan Geraghty picks out three big priced course debutants to challenge on day one at TPC Summerlin...
"Scott Strohmeyer is arguably, the longest hitter ever to tee it up on the PGA Tour."
I'm throwing a few darts at big prices at the Shriners this week, where it looks like the morning starters will have the best of the day one weather; the wind is due to increase as the day goes on.
Scott Strohmeyer is arguably, the longest hitter ever to tee it up on the PGA Tour. His power did him the world of good last week when he qualified for his first ever PGA Tour start, before going on to finish in the top five, earning him a place in this week's field. His enormous length means the birdies are plentiful, however he did look a little wayward at times last week. Still, with a morning tee time, triple figures is worth a dart.
In the same three-ball, Beau Hossler will likely be playing all his second shots before Strohmeyer but I'd be confident there won't be too much between their scores at the end, the putter is a great equaliser. Hossler posted a very encouraging 10th place finish last week, I expect the hugely successful amateur to keep the ball rolling with a good performance this week; these end of year events can set his season up nicely.
I'm a longtime admirer of Brandon Hagy and was delighted to see he started his season last week with a top 20. That form and a morning tee time is all the encouragement I need to keep him onside here on a course I personally think favours the bombers (where doesn't?).
...and that's it, three selections. What's that? Patrick Rodgers has a morning tee time? No, I'm not going to pick Patrick Rodgers.
Back Scott Strohmeyer @ 100.099/1
Back Beau Hossler @ 75.074/1
Back Brandon Hagy @ 85.084/1
