If past results of the Greenbriar Classic are any sort of guide, there is probably no better week in the entire year for the purposes of this column. As Steve Rawlings explains in his comprehensive guide, all five winners were within our triple-figure odds range.
Two of those - Scott Stallings and Ted Potter - were effectively unpickable, in the very early stages of their PGA Tour careers. If players like that, for whom it would have been impossible to manufacture any sort of case for, can win then both of this week's selections most certainly can. Indeed, both are former winners on the PGA Tour.
First I'm following Steve in on Charlie Beljan at 140.0139/1. Nearly all of Charlie's best golf has come in low-scoring conditions, including at this week's venue where he was third in 2012 and 11th last year, which makes his top-20 in the gruelling US Open look even better. This is a capable, if streaky, player with a win under his belt plus top-threes in elite company at Riviera and Pebble Beach.
Next a high-class, four-time PGA Tour winner, who many shrewd judges once saw as a future major champion, at 200.0199/1. Sean O'Hair's life and career have been through many ups and downs, but he is still only 32 and will likely win again somewhere.
There were definite signs of recovery during the Florida Swing, most notably when runner-up at Copperhead, and he's made a further three top-20s since. He was seventh here at the Old White Course in 2012, and should enjoy this putting contest, given that he ranks sixth for total putting among this field, this season.
The trading advice is to stake 3.5 units in total on the pair, then place lay orders on both at 12.011/1 and 3.02/1, with a view towards banking a profit in-running. If either hits the first target, we'll be guaranteed to quadruple our money, whilst retaining substantial extra positions.
