Peter Lawrie could triumph at exposed Arlandastad.

Fresh from celebrating the latest Major-winning exploits of their greatest ever golfing hero, there could be more to come for Irish golf fans this week. Padraig Harrington may be taking a well-earned break rather than flying to Sweden for the Scandinavian Masters, but several of his countrymen hold decent prospects.

Nor am I thinking about Paul McGinley, who holds a decent chance but is nowhere near the odds required for this column. Instead my final shortlist was reduced to two Irishmen who have won already this season, with [130.00] chance Peter Lawrie eventually preferred to Damien MacGrane.

My main reason concerns the venue. Arlandastad G.C is one of the most exposed courses used on the European Tour rota, and is described as having a 'Scottish feel' despite being a parkland course. Penal rough places a heavy premium on driving accuracy, but the crucial requirement is an ability to maintain that tee to green accuracy in strong winds.

I'd normally fancy Irish or British players in such conditions, and Lawrie particularly fits the bill. The 34 year-old's first win on the main tour in May's Spanish Open was long overdue, but hopefully will act as a spur for many more. He's certainly held plenty of winning chances since winning the 'Rookie of the Year' award back in 2003.

Lawrie regularly features near the very top of the driving accuracy stats, which should ensure he is there or thereabouts over the weekend. And another point of encouragement is that he played well on his course debut last year to finish 12th, broadly in line with his other starts in Sweden, a country where he's never finished outside the top-25.

couldnt believe that peter lawrie had already dropped to as low as 60.00 on the betfair market, so i looked at the top 5 finish price and was amazed that he was still on offer at 24.00 so i increased my stake and backed him. ive also put a saviour on him at 12.00 to fin in the top 10. now thats what i call value Brian
