The key to success at Bellerive will be ball striking and Paul Krishnamurty has found the right man for the occasion.
Just 70 players remain in the Fedex Cup race with 59 lining up for the penultimate leg, the BMW Championship. Vijay Singh may now look nailed on for the $10M first prize bonus, but there's plenty of remaining incentive for the rest. Only the top-30 will move forward to the lucrative Tour Championship finale, but one good week for those currently way back could keep their hopes alive and transform their season.
Having reached this far none of them are mugs, and after the market leaders dominated the first two events we could be due a shock winner.
This week's course, Bellerive, is a famous championship course that has hosted a US Seniors Open and a USPGA in the last two decades. Reports suggest that scoring will be much higher than the past two weeks, and that the key to success will be ball striking.
Given this likely emphasis, John Senden appeals at [180.00]. Senden is always near the top of the greens in regulation stats, and a decent outside bet on championship golf courses. Most of his best efforts in the past have come on such courses, including an Australian Open title, and 4th place in the 2007 PGA Championship at Southern Hills. His best effort to date in 2008 also came on a course that rewarded long game accuracy, when finishing second at the PODS Championship.
Senden also came good around this time last year. Following on from that Majors personal best in the PGA, he registered two other top-5s in September. Recent results suggest he could well be up for a similar run this autumn. Three weeks ago, he finished 6th at the Wyndham Championship, and two mid-division efforts in these latest play-off events were reasonable efforts on courses that weren't ideally set up for his strengths.
