With the big boys away The Viking Classic offers out of form players a chance of glory. Age, experience, accurate irons and a hot putter are the way to play Annandale, says Paul Krishnamurty.

Naturally with the cream of the PGA Tour crop otherwise engaged at Valhalla, the field for the Viking Classic is very short on strength in depth. Finding potential three-figured priced winners in such a scenario is no easy feat, as we are dealing mostly with either badly out of form players, or at best those who haven't won in a long time.

Nevertheless, when this course used to host the Southern Farm Bureau Classic, there were plenty of unlikely winners. In 2006, all of the top-5 started at 100 or more on Betfair. Annandale also has a tendency to suit older, experienced players because length off the tee is no great advantage. Rather, the name of the game here is accurate iron play and a hot putter.

In his final year before being able to 'graduate' to the Seniors, [120.0] chance Bob Tway could be just the ticket. Famous for chipping in to deny Greg Norman in the 1986 USPGA, Tway has been accumulating mid-division prize money ever since. In total he has eight PGA titles to his name, the last of which came five years ago in 2003.

Recent form is typically steady if unspectacular. From a relatively sparse 2008 schedule of 12 starts, he has five top-25s including 4th at the Buick Open. Always very consistent from tee to green, Tway's recent putting stats very much take the eye, and we know he can play this course and putt on these greens as he made the top-5 at Annandale as recently as 2005.
